The Persistent Need of Consulting in the Age of AI

Consulting has been a prevalent part of the global economy for well over a century. With a market size of over $300 billion and an estimated 6% annual growth rate (Spherical Insights, 20241), the consulting industry is a lucrative sector that has grown in direct proportion to the global economy. However, the question is: how does the industry fare in the coming age of AI?

Consulting has long been seen as a useful third-party validation system, performing flexible tasks the client company is not geared to resolve. What if I told you there was a better and cheaper alternative to hiring seasoned consultants? The truth is that there is not a more efficient and accurate consultant than a tenured individual or firm with years of experience and wisdom.

Instead of any one side doing all the work, the industry will be reshaped by the incoming advanced technologies. Artificial Intelligence has the ability to aid in the job of junior consultants, ranging from market research to analysis and modeling (Duncan et al., 20252).

Companies will have to adapt to the rapid advancement of AI, restructuring their framework around the new technology. However, this does not mean consulting is out entirely. Already, roughly 75% of eager companies have rolled back artificial intelligence solutions that were introduced too hastily (Doerer, 20263). These early decisions alone could have been prevented by veteran consulting firms.

Now is a critical point in time for enterprises to employ trustworthy consultants who sustain a healthy relationship with artificial intelligence in order to put forth functional solutions with great diligence and efficiency. Consulting plays a critical role in your organization that can not just be substituted for volatile and inconsistent technology without proper oversight.
